LEGAZPI CITY- Albay’s celebration of this year’s Magayon Festival
aims to promote tourism in this province and to showcase its top-
of- the- line products and open up a host of business and
income-generating opportunities to residents.
Originally a tourism and a cultural event held during summertime,
Magayon Festival 2008 will give attention to the business side to
help people of Albay recover from recent devastation by flood and
other natural calamities.
Albay Gov. Joey S. Salceda initiated the revival of the festival
for local entrepreneurs to gain something from the month- long
activity.
The festival will be highlighted by a series of trade fairs,
exhibits, and One Town One Product (OTOP) program being pushed by
the department of Trade and Industry.
Salceda said the OTOP product has been a big help to the people of
Albay known for the uniqueness of their products.
An example is the town of Camalig which is becoming popular for
its pinangat, a food viand now bottled and exported.
